Cohorted Beauty Box - First Impressions

At the end of last month whilst going through my morning ritual of adding lots of things to a shopping basket and then not buying them, I decided to actually make a purchase. Some random internet searches got me on the hunt for the perfect monthly subscription box. I have had a Glossy Box before and loved the idea of it but wanted to find something that included more high end products. I looked at the Glamour boxes on latestinbeauty.com but as they aren't a monthly subscription box, they didn't quite fit with what I was after. I then came across the Cohorted Beauty Box.

The website boasts that boxes can include brands such as Nars, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Too Faced (the list goes on) and after watching an unboxing of the February video I decided to take the plunge. With a more expensive price tag than the average beauty box (£35.00) it took a bit of weighing up but in the end I figured that I normally spend way more than that on make up each month so it was worth a go.

The payment comes out at the beginning of the month and you receive your first box around the 2nd week - I got mine on 9th April.

The box itself is the same size as most beauty boxes and has a hinged magnetic lid - perfect for re-using. Unfortunately, as with most subscription boxes, the inside is filled with really annoying paper packing that is a nightmare to get out but apart from that it looks great. It also comes with a booklet giving some information about the products and brands inside, as well as discount codes.

If I'm honest, when I initially took a look at the products I was a little disappointed. The only high end brand that I was familiar with was a Mac lip crayon but it did include some products that I was excited to try.

The first product that caught my eye was the Mac Patentolish Lip Pencil in Kittenish. Previously popular, Mac have re-released this recently and I was so excited to try this out. I am a huge fan of lip crayons and this is a perfect every day pink - so happy it was in the box.

Also in the box was a full size Gold Elements Golden Nail Kit. I have never heard of the brand before but the kit is gorgeous with rose gold accents and a luxurious feel. Included in the kit is a buffer block, nail file, hand & nail cream and cuticle oil - enough for a full manicure. Although I tend to get my nails done at a Salon, I am sure I will get a lot of use out of these products so another win.

Like a magpie, I am attracted to shiny things so the MDM Flow Lipstick caught my eye. I have heard a little bit about the brand so was curious to see what the lipstick was like. Unfortunately the colour is really not my taste but I am hoping that it might be a colour that looks great with a tan so could wear it in the summer.

Also included in the box was a bottle of The Body Shop's White Musk Libertine Eau De Toilette 60ml. Again a product that I haven't tried but I am a fan of most Body Shop scents so this will always be a win. Unfortunately it doesn't look as though you can purchase this online at the moment so I hope it's not discontinued as it smells divine.

Last but very not least was a gorgeous bath bomb from Miss Patisserie. Again a brand I haven't heard of before but immediately I loved it. The bomb is presented in a cute little monochrome box with instructions on the outside and the bomb itself is absolutely beautiful. Made to look like a cupcake, it looks so good you could eat it! Since receiving this box I have seen more products from Miss Patisserie in a local Tesco (one of the huge superstores) and I definitely want to try more from their range.

Although I was initially disappointed in the lack of high end brands in this box, after a closer inspection I can honestly say that I am really pleased with the contents. All items are full size (as with all boxes) and there are plenty of new brands to try out. Cohorted Beauty Box - win!

Jenni's Beauty Lashes

False lashes have to be my go-to beauty product for an evening out so when Jenni from Jenni's Beauty Lashes sent me her Angel Collection to try out, I was super happy to give them a go.

When I first spoke with Jenni, she told me about her brand and her story is so inspiring. Jenni is an ex-Solicitor who gave it all up to follow her passion in beauty, specifically lashes. After lots of research and her own funding, she developed her range of lashes which are made from 100% human hair. There are currently 4 sets of lashes and they are available individually or as a set, the Angel Collection Gift Set.

Victoria

The Victoria lashes are the finest pair of lashes and perfect for every day or for a date night where you don't want anything too heavy. I wore these on a date night with Chris, which was a casual dinner and movie, and they were perfect for a natural look. The lashes were super comfy and I even fell asleep with them on in the cinema. I did have to cut these down slightly as they were a little big for my eyes but I usually have to do these with lashes otherwise they irritate me.

Jessica

The Jessica lashes are the next level up and are my favourites. I love the way the individual lashes are crossed over, giving a super natural flutter. Again these lashes could be worn for every day or a date night, but I love them for a girls night out as well. They are perfect to add volume and length without looking overly dramatic.

Kayleigh

The Kayleigh lashes are a super lash for giving extra length. They again look quite natural as they aren't extremely voluminous but would be perfect for a night out where you need your lashes to stand out a bit. I like wearing lashes like this when I want to go for a statement eye without having to wear a lot of make-up, e.g. when I'm in a rush to get ready for dinner with the girls and don't have time to blend!

Jennifer

The Jennifer lashes are the ultimate night out lashes. They are super voluminous and give extra length, perfect for a dramatic eye look. These lashes are the type of lashes I would wear on a night out where I want my eyes to stand out in photos etc. My best friend's hen party is in 3 weeks and I will definitely be wearing these!

-----------------------------------------------

All of these lashes can be worn multiple times if cared for properly and the pair that I tried look exactly as they did when I first took them out of the box so I'm sure I will get lots of uses out of these.

The packaging - a flexible plastic tray inside a rigid plastic case, makes the lashes easy to store and keep free of dust etc. This is definitely a win for me as I'm always losing lashes or getting them all stuck to each other, struggling to work out which goes with which.

The lashes are priced at £8.50 each or £30 for the set of 4 and Jenni is currently offering customers 10% off all orders when they enter discount code ANGEL at the checkout.

Overall, I think these lashes are great. There is a pair for everyone and as a lash fanatic, I will definitely get the use out of all of them.

Lastly, and the most exciting bit, I am running a giveaway for all you lovely readers. All you need to do is follow both me and Jenni's lashes on twitter and tweet me with the hashtag #mimisgiveaway. The winner will be drawn at the end of the month!

Tiny little haul

What do you do when you're bored and have no inspiration to write? Go shopping of course!

It was a miserable Saturday morning and although there was plenty to do round the house as well as work to catch up on, I could not resist taking a trip into town to have a browse. I did the typical girl thing, go out looking for one thing and come home with several other things that weren't the thing you went looking for!

I went out looking for a dress for my best friends hen party and got a little distracted on the way.

First Stop Primark

Whenever I go into Primark I always have to look at the home section. They have the cutest pillows and duvet sets and I absolutely adore their candles. I am thinking about changing the colour scheme in my bedroom to monochrome and Primark have some great pieces for this. My boyfriend isn't too pleased at the prospect of re-decorating but I really like the monochrome look and its timeless, don't you think? Anyway, enough rambling! Whilst looking at the candle section I found this cute little candle with a lovely cork lid for only £3.00. It smells devine and fits right in with my theme so that went straight in my basket (says in the voice of Anto Sharp).

As I wasn't looking for anything in particular on this visit, I thought I'd have a wander and look at the sections of Primark that I normally overlook. I started to take a look through the make-up and beauty section and came across these cute nautical themed vanity cases. They had these as well as a bigger zip up beauty case but I thought that I'd get the most use out of these ones. As I mentioned earlier, I am going to my best friend's hen party and as we are staying over night I really wanted a new wash bag and make up bag. I love the little rope zipper with the gold detailing and love the fact that both bags have a small zip compartment, perfect for those false lashes or earrings. The bigger wash bag was only £4.00 with the make up bag at £3.00 - bargain!

I'm an absolute sucker for shoes and have got some great pairs from Primark before but when I found these boots, I thought I had struck gold! I have been looking for some ankle boots to wear with jeans for a casual night out but haven't found any that I really loved....until now. I love the fact that although they can be tightened with the laces, they actually have a zipper on the inside which is great - I don't think I could deal with doing the laces up every time. These boots were in the sale but they had plenty of sizes available and were labelled as £10.00 reduced from £15.00. However, when I got to the till, they were only £5.00 which made these boots amazing value.

Primark to Topshop

Whilst making my way to the shoes I noticed this knitted bobble hat in a grey/blue colour. At only £2.50 I couldn't say no as you can never have enough bobble hats.

I then went from Primark to my favourite place, Topshop. After a little wander round I decided that I really needed to get the Joni jeans. I love the high waist and the cut of this jeans and they are super comfy. At £36.00 I don't think you can go wrong as I get so much wear out of them - definitely a must have.

Last stop, Boots

Unfortunately I can't leave without a trip to Boots. Theres always an essential I'm in need of and it gives me an excuse to check out the make-up too! We had run out of toothpaste that morning so I picked up my favourite, Colgate Max White One in Luminous. I like the taste of Colgate toothpastes and the Max White series really make a difference. Love, love, love!

As my hair is bleached at the bottom, it can get very dry so I needed to pick up some intensive conditioner. I've heard some good things about the L'oréal Hair Expertise range. This conditioner claims to moisturise dry hair and leave it dazzling so I can't wait to try it. It is also free of sulphates and contains botanical oils so I'm hoping that this will be the rescue hair remedy my hair needs. I will keep you updated on this one!

I have been using the Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation recently and really loved it but I really wanted to try something different. After watching Pixiwoo's latest video on foundations, I decided to give this one a go. The colour seems to match my skin and apparently it stays matte for 24 hours which would definitely be a win. Watch this space, perhaps a new foundation favourite?

Last but definitely not least, I picked up the new Revlon mascaras. They only had these 3 in store when I went in and they were 3 for 2 so it made sense to pick up all of them. I do really want to try the Dramatic Definition one so may order it online. Looking at the brushes, I am not sure whether the Ultimate all-in-one will be very good but the other 2 look great. Stay tuned for a blog post dedicated to the very mascaras coming up soon.

Thank for having a read, don't forget to follow on here or twitter to keep up-to-date with my latest posts.

December Favourites

As you can see, in December I had lots of favourites. There were more than this but I decided to put them in to January's favourites as they were Christmas presents so have been used more in January than December. So, let's get started!

Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser, GinZing Energy-Boosting moisturizer and Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

These little beauties were part of an Origins gift set that I picked up. In early December I was out shopping for Christmas presents and I came across a bargain in Boots. They had an Origins gift set that included 3 travel size products and a full size product for £25. As I hadn't tried any Origins products before I was really excited about this set and I am so glad I gave it a go. This cleanser has a really fruity scent which is great to wake you up in the morning and it leaves your skin feeling so fresh. I found myself wanting to use this every time I got in the shower so definitely had to go in the favourites. The moisturiser again smells so fruity and is so light on the skin that it soaks in super quick. I also love the overnight mask as it really leaves your skin feeling soft and supple in the morning.

The White Company Fragrance - Blanc

Now this is a bit of a cheating favourites as it wasn't just a December favourite, it was a 2015 favourite! I first found this scent in 2014 and fell in love with it. After many hints my boyfriend bought me this as a present and I have used it religiously ever since. The combination of geranium, juniper and patchouli are perfect and whenever I wear it I instantly feel happy. It is one of those perfumes that transports you back to some great memories when you wear it. When it runs out, I will be distraught....that is until I buy it again.

Benefit Roller Lash

Again, this is probably a cheat as I loved this through 2015 and not just December but I did find myself reaching for this more last month. I love this mascara as it really defines my lashes and curls them without any clumping. This is definitely my favourite mascara and I am going to have to buy a new one soon as mine is starting to dry out!

Urban Decay Naked Palette

I've had this palette for a little while but I always find I go back to it time and time again. My favourite colours at the moment are Sin and Sidecar but I can honestly say that I use all of them. This is such a versatile palette with plenty of colours to create many different looks. It is well worth the money spent and if I could only ever use one palette again, it would be this.

Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Bare Study & Urbay Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

So I grouped these 2 together as I tend to use both of them to set my eyeshadows and I love the combination. The Urbay Decay primer potion is brilliant on it's own and ensures my eyeshadow does not budge all day. The Mac paint pot does a similar thing and Bare Study is such a beautiful colour, however, used alone it does crease. Therefore, I use both products together to give a lovely base that stays put all day.

Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation & Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Again, I have grouped 2 of my favourites together as they are like 2 peas in a pod. The foundation is good applied with a brush but applied with this sponge it's amazing. With the sponge you can get a medium to full coverage without it looking cakey at all. The sponge also makes applying foundation so quick and easy, you don't have to sit there blending for ages. It's not often that I use the world miracle but I do agree that this is a "Miracle Complexion Sponge".

Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette & Real Techniques Bold Metals brushes

This sleek palette was in my basket the minute it came out and I absolutely do not regret it. The pink and bronze highlighting powders are super pigmented and the creme highlighter is brilliant for brows. I have so many highlighters now that it should make it difficult to pick but I always seem to find myself choosing this palette. The colours are gorgeous.

The Real Techniques brushes have always been a favourite but when the bold metals collection came out, I wasn't sure whether I could bring myself to pay that extra money. In December, Boots were doing an offer where you got a big angled powder brush, a cheek brush and eyeshadow brush for £25 so I could not resist. I absolutely love these brushes, they are super soft and they are so pretty sitting on my dressing table. (I have just checked and they are still on offer!!)

If you fancy trying any of the products yourself, the links are in all the headers.

Meet Just Amara/Lots Of Love, Mimi

Tonight's post is a collab with the lovely Just Amara. This is my first collar post and I've really enjoyed it. We decided to answer 25 random questions for each others blog so that you can all get to know us! I will leave Amara's links at the bottom so make sure you follow, subscribe and check out her post to see my answers to the questions.

1.   What is your Blog’s name?

Just Amara

2.    Why did you start blogging?

I’ve always loved reading blogs (especially those including make-up and bath products) and always wanted to buy the new releases that I saw blogged about. I felt that starting my own blog would justify buying them; I was getting super bored last summer. So blogging became the thing to fill my time!

3.    Why did you choose your Blog’s name?

I debated for ages on my blog name because I didn’t want anything complex, just plain and simple. I didn’t think that my blog would be anything special, as it was just me writing this blog. Then it hit me that I should call my blog ‘Just Amara’.

4.    Who is your favourite blogger?

I have a ton of favourite bloggers, so I don’t think its fair just to mention one!

5.    Which of your blog posts are you most proud of and why?

I’m probably most proud of my first blog post, which was a review of Choccywoccydoodah in London, which I visited with my family. It took a long time for me to write it, and even longer to get myself to post it!

6.    Do you have any pets?

Yes I do. I have a dog called Fudge who is a mix between a Cocker Spaniel, a Springer Spaniel and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and he’s absolutely crazy!

7.    If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

My favourite place in the whole world is America, I don’t mind where exactly but my favourites are: Florida, LA, New York and California.

8.    What is your favourite holiday destination?

Similarly to the last question I’d have to say America! But if not, I like anywhere hot where I can lie on the beach or by the pool and relax.

9.    Do you prefer to shop online or in store?

I find shopping online much easier cause it’s a lot less flustering than visiting the shop. But for clothes I’d much rather visit the shop to try them on, as online clothes purchases never seem to fit right!

10.  Where do you feel most at home?

It sounds cheesy, but as a dancer I feel most at home on stage or taking a class in a dance studio.

11.  Do you have any siblings?

Yes I have a younger sister called Sîan.

12.  What is your favourite make up product?

At the moment my favourite make up product is lipstick as I love playing around with different shades to see what they look like on me.

13.  What is your favourite film?

I have lots, but to save time I’ll just list a few:  The Holiday, Bridesmaids, The Dictator, Love Actually, Elf, I Give It A Year, Daddy’s Home, Blended, The Fault in our Stars and all of the Hunger Games.

14.  What is your comfiest clothing?

Definitely my pjs, I just love to get into them at the end of a long day and climb into bed!

15.  Scary movie or happy endings?

I’m a sucker for a happy ending, especially at the end of a Disney movie so definitely happy endings.

16.  Night in or night out?

Although I love getting ready for a night out, I’m quite boring in the fact I love a night curled up on the sofa with blankets and treats watching my favourite films. So I’d probably say a night in.

17.  What is your middle name?

Imogen

18.  If you could meet anyone famous, who would it be?

I’m very lucky to say I’ve met two from my list of famous people I’d like to meet (Abby Lee Miller and Carrie Hope Fletcher) but now I’d probably say: Idina Menzel, Kristen Chenoweth or Zoella.

19.  Favourite TV shows?

I have loads but some (in no particular order) are: Pretty Little Liars, Once Upon a Time, Friends, Orange is the New Black, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Pointless, Eastenders, Impractical Jokers and Dance Moms.

20.  You are on a desert island and can only have 3 things, what are they?

I’d probably pick music (even just on a radio), a hammock and a lifetime supply of chocolate!

21.  Favourite restaurant?

Either Wagamama’s or TGI Friday’s

22. High heels or flats?

Flats, I hate walking and especially dancing in high heels (boring I know!)

23.  What is your favourite thing to do in your free time?

Either dance, read a book or write/read a blog

24.  Instagram or Twitter?

I’ve always been a big fan of Instagram but I’m recently starting to discover a love for twitter

25.  What is your current blogging goal?

To blog to a schedule, attend my first blog meet up and to possibly have a giveaway in the future (watch this space!)

Go check her out and let her know I sent you!

Olivia Palermo X Ciaté London

Now although this collection has been out for a few months now, I was sceptical whether the products were worth the hype. With a hefty price tag of £17.00 for a nail polish, £19.00 for a lipstick and a massive £25.00 for a blush/bronze combo, I figured that Ciaté must have either been delirious or bringing something pretty special to the table.

I have plenty of Ciaté nail polishes and was not at all bothered about paying even more than usual for a special edition Olivia Palermo one (although I was tempted due to the cute presentation boxes). However, the blush/bronze cheek combos and lipsticks did spark my interest.

After the initial release, I couldn't bring myself to spend so much money on the products but noticed that they had them in TKMaxx. A bargain at approx. £11.00 for both I had to try them out.

I picked up 2 products from the collection, the first being The Cheekbone Cheat Blusher Bronzer Duo in Bluff Point.

I absolutely love this compact, everything about it fits the brief. The elegant packaging looks great on the dressing table and the large mirror inside makes it perfect to pop in your handbag for touch ups on the go. The formulation is lovely as it is infused with bamboo extract to leave your skin feeling smooth and this also controls any oil in the skin. It also has a "lightweight demi-matte finish" which gives the feeling of a creme product when you apply it. The blusher is lovely and subtle and adds a pop of colour to the cheeks while the bronzer is an ashy bronze, great for contour as well as a natural sun kissed warmth. You can also mix the 2 to give a beautiful warm glow.

The other product was this classic red lipstick, Velveteen.

I wasn't as blown away with this lipstick as I was the compact. The formula is really creamy and doesn't feel drying at all with a great colour pay off. The colour is a lovely classic deep red which I feel is so wearable. The only downside is the packaging. Although it is higher quality than your average drugstore product, I feel as though some other lipsticks with a similar price point, e.g. Charlotte Tilbury, have a much more exquisite design that feels worthy of the price.

All in all I really like both of these products but I possibly wouldn't re-purchase the lipstick.

If you want to try these products for yourself they are available at discounted prices at both TK Maxx and on Ciaté's website so get them before they're gone!

I would love to hear if anyone else has tried any of the other products from the collection.

Back to work - Beating the Sunday night blues

Well I don't know about you but I suffer from the Sunday night blues big time. I don't hate my job but I do love my weekends. If I'm honest, it's not because I have a huge social life and am out every weekend but I just love having those 2 days to myself.

Weekends for me are usually spent with my menagerie (2 dogs and a cat) and my boyfriend, Chris. Chris will often work on a Saturday so I usually spend this time seeing friends or shopping and then Sundays are our chill out day. We often will have a mad blitz of the chores and then spend the rest of our free time relaxing and watching films.

I love having time with my family, friends and our animals so as you can imagine, on a Sunday evening I sure do get the "back to work grumps". Today is no different, in fact tonight I am feeling this even more as I have had the last 2 weeks off work!

When I am dreading a Monday morning there are a few things that I like to do that put me in a better mood and make me feel more ready for the week ahead.

The first thing I do to really relax is to take a nice warm bath using some of my nicer bath products. I will pick up a bath soak, oil or bubble bar, my favourite at the moment is my Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay Bath Oil. Just before I get in, I put in a nice skin softening bath bomb (tonights choice being So White from Lush) and watch that fizz away before dipping my toes. Whilst in the bath after some relaxing time reading my book, I use a cleanser like Origins Make A Difference Cleansing Milk to remove my make up. I then like to use a face mask, like the Soap & Glory No Clogs Allowed Mask. Whilst this works into my skin I wash my body, my current favourite is a Christmas gift set present, the Laura Ashley Shower Cream. I love this product but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be sold separately so I am going to be really upset once it is used up.

After my bath I will put on my Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask and moisturise my body using either the Laura Ashley Body Lotion (from the same set as the shower cream) or I will use the Lush Massage Bar Each Peach (And Two's a Pair).

Then it's time to put on some comfy Pyjamas and paint my nails. Due to the nature of my job, I don't tend to wear any really extravagant colours so I usually go for either a nude, grey or red. If I need a bit of confidence I will usually go for OPI's Big Apple Red - a red nail polish can really turn my mood around and make me feel like I can take on the world!

Once my nails are painted and I've waited what feels like a lifetime for them to dry (and let's face it, probably bashed them as I've attempted to look at my phone whilst waiting), I then go on to prepping for Monday morning. I like to make sure I know what I'm wearing the night before otherwise it really stresses me out in the morning. I get out what I'm going to wear and check if anything needs ironing - no I am not one of those people that stands ironing for hours before she puts it away, life's too short for that.

Once my clothes are out and ironed I then will prep for lunch. I am quite bad at doing this and normally end up grabbing a sandwich in my lunch hour but it means I end up eating unhealthily. I like to take a wrap for my lunch like falafel, humous and salad, as well as some fruit and some carrots or peppers to snack on.

Once all this prep is done I can finally relax with my loves and enjoy dinner and a film.

This little routine really makes me feel calm and so ready to bust into work on Monday morning with my freshly painted nails and healthy prepared lunch in my hand.

I would love to hear what you all do on a Sunday evening to get over the Sunday night blues so give me a tweet or comment below and let me know.
